Welcome to YouthAMP
Submitted by Yasha on Sat, 2005-03-12 02:32.Youth AMP is a project intended to spread accurate information about drinking practices and to raise support for safe, responsible, and effective drinking laws. Our main focus will be on raising support for a lower drinking age.
We have some work to do here if we want this to be a succesul and fast growing project. To start with, we need a dedicated core of people that will take charge of contributing writing and visual design ideas to this site.
The most important ways anyone can help right now is by adding their CSS or PHP skills to the design and development effort, adding their writing skills to research and content creation, or to add financial contributions to grow YouthAmp into a leading voice for drinking law reform.

Drinking Age and Power of the Purse
Submitted by Gman19 on Sun, 2005-06-05 12:21.This is my first post on this site, and I'm very happy to see other groups like YouthAMP are concerned about lowering the drink age and restoring the rights to ALL adults 18+.
Everyone knows that the states maintain a certain drinking age, but many do not know that the states are not OBLIGATED to keep a drinking law on the books. Why then do majority of the states continue to keep the age at 21?
The answer is simple: the Power of the Purse. This is a legal term which I like to associate with extortion. In fact, I would use these two terms interchangeably. The Power of the Purse is nothing more than an extortion practice used by the Federal Government to impose their beliefs on the states. If the states refuse to go along, funding is pulled for various projects (road and highway construction in particular).
Small Changes In Progress
Submitted by Yasha on Wed, 2005-05-18 20:45.I am currently working on tweaking the CivicSpace theme we use for this site. Anyone with PHP and/or CSS skills is welcome to help. YouthAMP supporters can expect to see many more changes over the coming weeks. If you want to see a central online gathering point for resources and organizing to lower the drinking age, step up and get involved. The more of us participate in building this, the stronger our chances will be to succeed.
Vermont Campaign
Submitted by Yasha on Thu, 2005-03-17 14:59.Action Alert: There is a real chance to lower the drinking age in Vermont, if we all put our support behind it. Alex gives the details in his entry on the Action page of everything that has come together to make this possible.
This is the best chance at lowering the drinking age that has come along in a very long time. Everything you can do to help counts. We need dedicated people who can come to Vermont. If you can make the trip, let Alex know. You can reach him through email at AKPalicz@youthrights.org or through his AIM screename: Youth Rights.
Let's Get It Started
Submitted by Fynix on Tue, 2005-03-15 00:26.Hi everybody. I'm Ana and I'm one of the creators of YouthAMP. Right now to get this thing going I'm in the middle of my own crash course in design, social networking, drupal development and civicspace administration, to name a few. I want YouthAMP to become a powerful force for a safer, fairer approach to drinking today, because things need to change. It's a dangerous thing in society that we take people's relationship with alcohol out of their own hands and demean them by claiming they should have adult responsibilities without adult rights. It's about time we do something about it.
Lower the drinking age now !!!
Submitted by ___Seeker___ on Sun, 2005-03-13 04:52.Hi everyone, I am new here but I plan on working hard with this site to lower the drinking age. I plan on contacting bands and club promotors and others to donate to this site and this cause. I am excited that at this day and age we can actually prove to the world that its time for change and that the younger generation is smarter and wiser and up to the changes that can be made. I am sure that this cause will be a start to many changes in the youth of America. Because its not about just being able to drink, its about the world seeing us as equals instead of just minors and if I can die for America and its freedom then I should be able to drink to its freedom too. So its time we start the changes and show this world we are up to all of its challenges and that we can conquer them all. This is a beginning and we will get the support and help we need to lower the drinking age!
